pin to present: peony and rose wreath

The china hutch is one of my favorite places to decorate in our new home. At our old house, it wasn't nearly as prominent so I never bothered with it. Now that it's front and center in our dining/living area - combined with the fact that decorating the mantel is hampered a bit by the TV - it has quickly become my go-to spot to display seasonal decor. I wanted something soft and pretty for spring to go in the space and once I saw Laura's simple spring wreath with peonies I knew had to make it! I immediately rushed out to buy supplies, then sat on the project for a few weeks since finding time to craft these days has been almost impossible. But the stars aligned and I had a few hours yesterday to make it happen.

Let me tell you, I love love love how it turned out! And it was so stinking easy (and quick) to put together. All you need is a grapevine wreath, flowers, lambs ear, hot glue and wire cutters.

Though I found the exact flowers Laura had used in her wreath in-store at Michaels, I wanted something that looked a little more realistic in real life, so I ended up splurging and getting real-touch rose sprays and peonies. Thankfully there were 50% off at the time, but still an investment. But let me tell you, they're GORGEOUS in real life, they truly look almost completely real. I also bought the grapevine wreath and small pink flower stems from Michaels and the lambs ear stems from Hobby Lobby.

Forgive me for the picture overload, I couldn't decide which photos I liked best, so I just put them all on here. :) Kind of unrelated, but I'm thinking about painting my red hutch palladian blue to better match the living room which consists of a lot of gray and greenish teal, but I'm worried it'll be too matchy-matchy. I'm worried right now the living room looks like Christmas with the greenish teal ottoman and red hutch. Sadly, I thought I had a picture of the currently state of the living room for reference, but all I could find was one from Christmas. Thoughts?

floral midi skirt

floral cotton midi skirt, aqua tippi, nude wedge sandals 4

Now that it's finally spring I'm beyond excited to bust out all the pretty springy things...like this floral cotton midi skirt from J. Crew. It's a nice, lightweight cotton that's perfect now and will still be nice and cool this summer. Plus, it has pockets, which is always a win in my book. It's currently 41% off and still available in select sizes. I bought mine in a 16 and it fits true to size. If you didn't want to wear an Easter dress, this would make for a cute outfit without being too fussy!

Speaking of things J. Crew - they having a sale for 40% off full-price styles with code SPRINGTOIT. I love the floral print of this skirt so much that I also have the sleeveless tank on it's way to me. Also, how cute would this blush wrap sweater look with this skirt? I'm also majorly crushing on these pearl and crystal statement earrings, and a girl can never have too many ruffle sleeve tops, amiright?

  • what I'm looking forward to: Spending time with family (including my sister and her crew) this week. It would be fun to have the week off from work, but I know we'll still squeeze plenty of family time in!

frinally

pink kimono cardigan, days of the week tee, distressed jeans 6

This week has been a dozy and I'm beyond glad it's Frinally Friday! And what better way to celebrate the pending weekend than with fun 12 days of the week tee? It's seriously so super soft and perfect for a casual Friday, Saturday or really any day.

My family is in town all next week - yay so excited! In between working, I'm looking forward to hanging out on the beach, eating good food and more than likely having a glass or three of wine. #bliss

In addition to this day of the week tee, I thought it would be fun to share some graphic tees that I would love to add to my closet. A girl can never have too many fun tees, amiright?

I particularly love the watermelon print as well as the "Don't judge a book by it's movie" tee - so cute.

bustin' out my buttons baby

gray stripe utility shirt, black pencil pants, blush flats 6

This outfit was the result of a comedy of errors. I originally wanted to wear my rose pink pencil pants with this outfit, but they were no wear to be found. I recently organized my closet, but they weren't there. (Confession: I still have a tub of clothes to unpack from our move from almost a year ago and I couldn't find them there either). A mystery. So as a nod to spring, I wore these pink scallop flats instead. Then when it came time to put on my jewelry, one of my stud earrings was missing. Ugh, don't you hate that? I searched all through my jewelry box to no avail. I remember taking them off and putting them in there, I'm not sure how one managed to walk away.

So, already running late I start to get little man ready only to find out he's had a MASSIVE blowout. Like defcon five blowout. Like there's NO WAY I'm washing that much poo out of those pajamas, just chuck it kind of blowout. Good times.

So -  obviously - by that point I was running majorly late and didn't notice that I was busting out of my buttons. Opps. Usually, I'll use a safety pin or two to close any gaps, but that didn't happen. I just rocked it. So, forgive me for the lackluster, hot-mess, button popping outfit - it was supposed to be much better. Oh well, some days it's just a victory to get dressed. Now to try to find those pink pants...

whatnots:
  • what I'm watching: "Nailed It," on Netflix. So funny.
  • what I'm crushing on: All the pretty bedding. My dream bed would have these gray dot sheets, a pretty gray and white stripe duvet and a super soft cashmere throw.
  • what I'm looking forward to: a quiet week. Last week was a whirlwind. My co-worker who does a lot of the work for our golf tournament called out sick this week, so I picked up her portion - which was fun, but busy - and my little man and husband came down with a stomach bug. Looking forward to a stress (and sick) free week!

what to wear to an awards gala

The week before last, I asked for your help to pick an outfit for an upcoming awards gala. Thanks to your votes, I had the perfect one to wear! In addition to the winning look, I thought it would be fun to show all four outfits in real-life. So without further ado, here are my awards gala ensembles. (My apologies for the garage door backdrop, I snapped these right before leaving for the event.)

From least popular, to the winning look, here's a closer look at the outfits.

Look 1: Blush Wrap Dress (least popular)

dress: Boohoo (exact - size up!)  |  shoes: J. Crew Factory (exact)  |  clutch: Clare V. (exact)  |  earrings: Target (exact)  |  bracelet: Amazon (exact)  |  ring: Kendra Scott (cute alternative)

Based on the outfit inspiration, this was my least favorite look, and yours too. But in real-life, I'll be danged if I don't love it! The peach is such a pretty color, and I love how the high-low hem shoes off my gold sandals. I had to deviate a little bit from the original plan (the earrings were sold out, so I substituted them with these fun $4 pom pom ones, and used my leopard print clutch instead the beaded one from the inspiration layout) but I really, really like the way it all came together.

Look 2: Pink Tulle Skirt

Next up is this pink tulle maxi skirt. While it is a really fun outfit, I was actually relieved it wasn't the winning look - it would have been too much for this event. But I love it for something else!

Look 3: Little Black Dress (the runner-up)

dress: GAP (exact)  |  shoes: Target (exact)  |  clutch: Rebecca Minkoff (similar)  |  earrings: J. Crew (exact)  |  bracelet: Amazon (exact)  |  ring: Kendra Scott (cute alternative)

I love all the fun pops of pink in this outfit - especially the stud cluster earrings. This dress is super comfortable and I love the ruffle details, but I'm not sold on the cap sleeves. If they had been longer, this dress would have been perfect.

Look 4: Lace Top and Pleated Midi Skirt (the winner!)

skirt: ASOS (exact in limited sizes)  |  top: Loft (similar)  |  shoes: Old Navy (similar)  |  clutch: J. Crew Factory (similar)  |  earrings: Baublebar (exact)  | bracelet: Amazon (exact)  |  ring: Kendra Scott (cute alternative

And the winning look by a landslide (see it in action here). Ya'll have some great taste, I loved wearing this outfit! It *almost* didn't work out when the skirt I ordered from Amazon turned out to be an epic fail, but thankfully I found this skirt from ASOS and it worked perfectly. I received tons of compliments on my outfit and I felt great in it. Truly, it was the perfect choice.

Thank you so much for you advice and input! Now that you've seen the looks in real-life, did your favorite change? I had a blast putting all the looks together, now I need more excuses to get dressed up!
