Welcome to Teal & Polka Dots!

I'm Erin, a mid 30s polka dot addict living in north Florida. I'm wife to Matt [7 years] and momma to Aubrey [age 3] and Oliver [age 6 months]. My super power - and kryptonite - is the ability shop all the good deals. I'm a shoe and Pinterest addict, knitter, avid reader and chocolate chip cookie lover. I love Jesus. I'm obsessed with the color teal, cardigans and anything polka dotted.

I decided to start this lifestyle blog to share my love of obtainable fashion at any size. I've fluctuated in weight, from a size 8 to an 18/20, and have struggled with body image for most of my life. I want my daughter to have a strong sense of self worth - both inside and out - and feel the best way to do that is by example. On a lighter note: I love sharing my finds and hopefully inspiring someone else's wardrobe. It just seems like a natural thing to blog about it. Why not talk about something you love?!

And sometimes a girls has got to throw a DIY or two into mix. Crafts and clothes are my jam.

I love hearing from Teal & Polka Dot readers! If you have a question, or just want to say hello, feel free to email me at tealandpolkadots@gmail.com.

A bit more about me:

1. I consider myself a displaced Floridian. Chattanooga, TN, will ALWAYS be home.

2. I'm a proud graduate of Lee University - go Flames! - and have my bachelor's in communication. I also have a master's degree in communication from Florida State University.

3. I'm an extroverted introvert. I love to hang out, but without alone time I become a serious grump.

 4. I feel a bit cheated in the height department. My dad's 6'2", my mom's 5'7" and I'm a whooping 5'5". Seriously, what happened there?

5. I honestly love this space and wish I had more time to dedicate to it.

 6. My one day grown up job is to have my own gift shop.

 7. My least favorite feature is my double chin, but my favorite is my lips/smile.

8. If I could sit and read a book all day, I would.

9. Fall is my absolute favorite season. All the pumpkin spice things please! #basic

 10. 99% of my closet is from Loft / J. Crew Factory.

  1. Thanks for your blog. I've been having thyroid/adrenal issues the past couple of years and my weight went up 60 lbs. I'm working on health and weight loss, but I love that you provide so many ideas on how to dress the body I have now. Thanks.

    1. Thanks Tabitha for you sweet words. One of the main reasons I started blogging was because at the time I didn't see a lot of women my size, they were either petite or the larger size of plus. If you're looking for other bloggers about my size, Megan has a ton of cute outfits (http://www.hayesdays.com/) and I love Alissa styles as well (http://www.theadoredlife.com/).

  2. I just recently discovered your blog and have been scouring it! I am in serious need of updating my closet, I'm so good about keeping my daughter dressed to the nines but not so much for myself. In my head I keep telling myself that once I lose weight I'll buy something nice, well...it's been many years and it hasn't happened! I LOVE your style so much. I work in a library and feel that many of these looks would work for me. Also, I'm pretty much exactly your size though am 5 foot 4 inches. with a smaller shoe. I was wondering if you may have time to do a blog post for some basics that if you were jut starting out on replenishing a VERY outdated closet, what items you would go towards? I'm really at a complete loss. I feel like I will see something that I like but then once home and facing my closet I have nothing else that it will go with. Suggestions on where to start, what pieces you would suggest starting out with would be GREATLY appreciated! Thanks!! Jen

    1. I'm not sure how this happened, but I just saw your comment. :( Wardrobe basics sound like a great blog post, I'll do best to come up with something along those lines in the near future. Thanks for the suggestion!
